Minimus

#15 Black Locust, 2013 Varietal/Vineyard: Syrah/Stella Maris Vineyard, Oregon

Quick Facts: Syrah and Viognier ferment well together, with the Viognier providing lift to the aromatics of the wine. Acacia wood smells an awful lot like Viognier. Let’s age some Syrah in Acacia and see what happens. Turns out that Acacia wood is very tannic wood compared to Oak, and Syrah 100% whole-cluster is also very tannic. The two together meant we needed to age this big boy in bottle for a few years before it was released.

Dijon Free Chardonnay, 2016

Quick Facts: No Djon clones were harmed in the making of this wine! Composition: Musque, Espiguette, Mendoza,108, Old Wente and Mt Eden clones from four distinct sites across Willamette Valley. Primary fermentation can take up to 12 months to complete and malo-lactic fermentation usually finishes first.

Dijon Free Pinot Noir, 2016

Grenache, 2015 Varietal/Vineyard: Grenache/Soloro Vineyard, Oregon

Quick Facts: The wine was fermented slowly for 40 days at upper 70F temperatures to preserve the floral aromatics that we love from this vineyard. Aging was in 500L puncheon to slow down oxygen exchange and minimize wood impacting the delicate flavors we see in this wine. An addition of 44ppm SO2 is added after malo-lactic fermentation to help preserve the youthful aromatics. After 6 months in barrel, the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Gruner Veltliner, 2015 Varietal/Vineyard: Gruner Veltliner/Vitae Springs Vineyard, Oregon

Pinot Gris Rose, 2017 Vineyard: Müller Thurgau/Willamette Valley, Oregon

Quick Facts: It’s the winemakers opinion that the most compelling and complex versions of Pinot Gris come from fermenting the juice on skins, just like a red wine. The wine was lightly sulfured after primary and malo-lactic fermentation completed and bottled without fining or filtration.

RedWhitePink Rose, 2016 Varietal: Pinot Gris, Syrah, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Tempranillo

Quick Facts: The American wine industry struggles with an identity crisis – no ancient vines and traditions passed on throughout generations to rely on. Rockwell, 2015 Varietal/Vineyard: 40% Tempranillo, 25% Syrah, 20% Blaufrankisch, 10% Viognier, 5% Sauvignon Blanc/Oregon

Quick Facts: RockWell is a blend of different single lot red and white wines from the cellar. The 2015 vintage marks the first release for this wine. With one exception being the SM2, every wine we produce is a single varietal wine. As much as we love to do that, there is much more fun to be had making elaborately blended, impossible combinations of grapes that come together to make something representative of nothing we normally revere in wine such as terroir, typicity, and tradition. This is a cuvee dedicated to the kid in all of us, and a reflection of our interest to make wine something it rarely seems to be...... FUN!

SM3 Syrah, 2015 Varietal/Vineyard: Syrah/Stella Maris Vineyard, Oregon

Quick Facts: SM3 is always pure Syrah from the Stella Maris Vineyard (SM). Fermentation is 100% wholecluster with maceration lasting one month. Vermentino, 2016 Varietal/Vineyard: Vermentino/Layne Vineyard, Oregon

Quick Facts: The grapes were de-stemmed and soaked for 48 hours with daily foot-treading to manage the cap. After pressing, the juice was transferred to an elliptical concrete tank "The Hippo" where it completed both primary and malo-lactic fermentations. 6 months later the malo-lactic fermentation completed, we added 44 ppm SO2, and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Prince in His Caves, 2014 Varietal/Vineyard: 100% Sauvignon Blanc/Farina Vineyards, California

Quick Facts: The fruit from the Prince's section of Farina Sauvignon Blanc has never been richer or ripened with more leisurely pace. It is as if we were waiting for the berries to blind us with their complexity in 2013: they ripened early and deepened in the cool, dry air of mid-Fall, without adding sugar. Still somewhat abashed by the ferocity of the 100% whole-cluster wine that we had just bottled from 2012, I decided to back off the stem inclusion to 80%; but we made every fermentation the same: all 80% whole cluster. We are rewarded with a wine that is dark like the 2009, but the opposite of fierce: powerful, of course, but deeply subtle, long, evanescent.

VLV Reserve, 2013 Varietal/Vineyard: 100% Verdelho, Bokisch Ranch, California
